而在2017年之前，商丘地区的污染情况是非常严重的，尤其是水体污染，像永城、睢县等地，很多河流都发出阵阵的恶臭，工业排水直接不经处理排入河流，给当地生态造成了严重危害。在中央第五环保督察组进驻后进行了严厉的批评，于是商丘开展了轰轰烈烈的治理污染的行动。

其中在大气污染治理上，首先对工业排放的废气进行了专项治理，在各地设置环境监测站进行实时监控，再次对渣土车安装GPS定位系统进行动态管理，并对渣土车等进行覆盖处理。然后就是采用雾炮车进行扬尘覆盖。

在经过严格的管控后，商丘的空气质量和水体污染现象明显得到了改善，直到今天，出永城市的环境还需要进一步提升外，其它地方都达到了领先的水平，于是在今年的评比中，商丘也位于全省第三名。

According to legend, a young man while roaming the desert came across a spring of delicious crystal-clear water. The water was so sweet, he filled his leather canteen so he could bring some back to a tribal elder who had been his teacher.
